Criminal Defense
Facing criminal charges in the Louisiana criminal justice system is very serious. Louisiana has a well-earned reputation for being extremely harsh on people who find themselves caught up in the court system. Because of this it is extremely important that you have an experienced, aggressive, and competent legal team to defend your rights.
There are two types of criminal charges:
Felony charges are crimes that carry harsher sentences and the real possibility of having to serve jail time, pay hefty fines, and the loss of some constitutional rights. Felony convictions can follow a person for many years after the case is complete. Therefore, it so important to take these charges seriously. Felonies involve dangerous weapons, infliction of serious injury or death, high amounts of property damage, or possession of certain types of drugs, etc.
Misdemeanor charges are less severe than felonies. However, they can also have adverse effects on an individual’s life. On top of a possible six months in the parish jail, fines, fees, and probation requirements, a person could face problems passing background checks for new jobs, or keeping firearms while the probation period is in effect.
